Wisła Kraków defeated Wieczysta Kraków 2–0, and Marcel Łubik kept his first clean sheet in the league this season. After the match, the White Star goalkeeper spoke with Maja Strzelczyk on TVP Sport. Among other things, he discussed the work of the entire team, the fans’ support, Wisła’s increasingly effective adaptation to the Ekstraklasa, and the competition in attack.

After the match, Łubik revealed that he had spoken with Jordi Sánchez before the opening whistle. The Spanish striker told him that this time the ball would not end up in Wisła’s net. The goalkeeper responded with a request of his own to his teammates.

– That’s right. I, in turn, said before the match that we should cross the ball to Jordi more often, because he had received a little too few of those balls in recent games, and he is, after all, the Ekstraklasa’s top scorer. I said: give him the ball. So it worked both ways – Łubik said.

The White Star goalkeeper also stressed that the first clean sheet was not solely down to him.

– The whole team deserves praise because they did an incredible job. This clean sheet is not only my achievement. It is the achievement of the entire defense, the entire team, and every player.

The final stages of the match brought particularly strong emotions, as Wieczysta still tried to score. Łubik highlighted the role of the fans, who helped the team maintain its concentration during the more difficult moments.

– The fans’ support really carries us. Especially in the second half, when they are behind us, you can feel how much it helps each of us. I’m happy that we managed to hold on until the end and keep a clean sheet.

The Wisła goalkeeper was also asked whether the contest with Wieczysta already felt like a full-fledged Kraków derby for the players, or whether it was still primarily another league match.

– I would say that, of course, it was a derby. Throughout the week at training, however, what I mainly felt was that every player was more focused. With every reception and every pass, everyone was more concentrated, we played more precisely, and we talked to one another more. You could already feel during the week that something was happening within the team – he explained.

Łubik also admitted that the team is increasingly finding its feet after returning to the top flight.

– We must not forget that Wisła Kraków are newcomers to the Ekstraklasa, although we do not see ourselves that way. We have not lost a single home match; we have won them all. You can see that everyone is gradually adapting to the pace of the Ekstraklasa. I’m happy that we are starting to show our quality. However, I think this is not yet the limit of our abilities.

One of the topics of the conversation was also the situation in the White Star’s attack. Although Ángel Rodado is still waiting to reach his best goalscoring form, other players are regularly taking responsibility for scoring.

– I’m happy that we have such a team. If an incredible striker like Ángel Rodado happens not to score, we have other players who can find the net. This shows the depth and quality of our squad. Today Jérémy came on and scored, Jordi also found the net, and Ángel had his chances.

Łubik also emphasized that Rodado remains one of the team’s leaders regardless of his individual statistics.

– Ángel obviously wants to score goals; I’m one hundred percent sure of that. But afterward he does not sit sadly or sulk in the dressing room. He celebrates with the team. He is an incredible leader, regardless of whether he plays or not, and whether he scores or not. We feel his support all the time.

Finally, the Wisła goalkeeper commented on the Spaniard’s work in training and his future form.

– He keeps working all the time. He stays after training, shoots, and tries to find his rhythm. I am one hundred percent convinced that he will score his goals for Wisła.
