Julius Ertlthaler sums up Biała Gwiazda’s winning match. The midfielder discusses the course of the first 30 minutes, reveals the team’s approach after taking the lead, and also emphasizes the importance of the fans, who help Wisła achieve more victories in front of their home crowd.
The first 30 minutes belonged to Wieczysta, but later you took the initiative. What influenced this change in the course of the match?
Julius Ertlthaler: I don’t know if I would say that they dominated us. I think we had the better chances to score. They may have had more possession, but in my opinion, they did not create too many chances during those 30 minutes. Of course, we knew they had a lot of quality, especially when in possession. Even if we sometimes had to defend a little deeper, I believe we did a good job.
After scoring the first goal, did you feel calmer, or did you immediately want to build on it and score another?
No, we definitely did not want to sit back. I believe that retreating after scoring a goal is the wrong approach. We aimed to score a second goal. Even when leading 2–0, however, we could have controlled the match better and kept possession for longer. That way, we could have made the closing stages easier for ourselves.
Three home matches and three victories. In your opinion, what is the key to such a good record?
Above all, we have a great team. The second very important factor is our stadium and our fans. They give us a great deal of energy in difficult moments and push us to our limits. We want to fight for them and we want to win for them. It’s that simple.
