Wisła Kraków defeated Jagiellonia Białystok 2–0 in very impressive fashion. After the final whistle, Alan Uryga summed up the course of the match, talking about the effective implementation of the game plan, the clean sheet for the White Star, his partnership with Marcel Łubik, and his current form.

Wisła secured a very convincing victory. Did you expect to be able to dominate Jagiellonia to such an extent?

I don’t think I’ll be exaggerating if I say that we had full control of the match. I didn’t look at the statistics; possession was probably even or perhaps even in Jagiellonia’s favor, but nothing came of it. Absolutely nothing. We had our plan for this match and managed to execute it one hundred percent.

Am I surprised? I’m not, because I know this team is capable of producing matches like today’s. I’m very happy that we are giving our fans another reason to celebrate. Ourselves too, because that’s what sport is all about.

Jagiellonia have a lot of attacking potential, yet you finished the match without conceding a goal. How much does such a clean sheet mean to you?

For me, as a defender, it is always very important and encouraging. It is especially significant for the defenders and the goalkeeper. Of course, in the end, the victory is what matters, but if I had to choose between a 2–1 win and a 2–0 win, I’m definitely happier that we didn’t concede.

It’s hard for me to recall a genuinely dangerous Jagiellonia chance that could have seriously threatened us. That makes it even more satisfying, because this clean sheet was not the result of the opponent’s poor finishing or a brilliant performance from the goalkeeper. As a team, we allowed Jagiellonia very few chances. It was a big, emphatic zero at the back.

You defeated a team that has been among the league’s very best in recent years. Could this result be an important signal to the other Ekstraklasa teams?

You could say that. There’s no denying that Jagiellonia have definitely been among the Ekstraklasa’s top teams in recent years. Some people said this would be our first really serious test.

In my view, every match is difficult, and in every one you have to fight for points and goals. That makes me even happier, because many people had made Jagiellonia the favorites, and we proved them wrong.

This was another match Marcel Łubik finished without conceding. How is your partnership with him developing?

I have to give Marcel a glowing review and speak about him in the highest terms. I work with him very well. He’s a guy who, apart from being an excellent goalkeeper, also brings a lot of energy to the team.

He is an active goalkeeper, gives instructions, and stays involved throughout the match. You can also see from his reactions, for example after goals are scored, that he has an incredible amount of energy. Nothing but praise.

You have a match against Śląsk coming up, which may carry additional weight because of the fan rivalry. Does that have any significance for the players’ approach to the match?

For me personally, as a Wisła player who grew up in the stands, it does matter to some extent, of course. I live for these things and feel connected to the fan community enough that, at certain moments, my heart may beat a little differently.

However, as a team, I don’t think we will allow that to have any impact whatsoever on the way we prepare for the match. We are playing at home and treating Śląsk like any other opponent.

Another tough match awaits us, because as I keep repeating, there are no easy games in this league. Nothing changes in that regard.

You have been in very good form recently and are regularly getting opportunities from the coach. What do you think is behind this form?

Consistency above all. Just doing your job, as the saying goes. I always say that I know my worth. This is not a surprise to me. Maybe it is to some people, but that’s not my problem.

I’ve played quite a few matches in this league. I know my worth and I know that I can absolutely handle myself in the Ekstraklasa and contribute a lot of good to this team.

I hope that is also how many people see it. However, I don’t pay attention to other people’s opinions. I do my job, and I’m convinced that I can contribute something good to this team.
