Marko Božić: We're all happy with this win.
Wisła Kraków won the opening Ekstraklasa match, and Marko Božić scored from a penalty. In an interview, the midfielder sums up the game against GKS Katowice and stresses that the most important thing was the three points for the entire team.
First of all, congratulations. Your first win in the Ekstraklasa, and a penalty goal right away. How do you feel after that first match?
I feel great. To be honest, the most important thing was the three points. We played in front of our fantastic fans, at the best stadium in the world—for me, at least. I think we are all happy with this victory. As you mentioned, I scored a goal. I am very proud and happy that, after four years of playing in the top division, I scored my first goal in the Ekstraklasa. It is something truly special for me. The emotions are very positive.
You looked very confident taking the penalty. Were you completely calm, or were your legs shaking a little because of the huge crowd?
No, I was not nervous at all. It was not my first match at this stadium, so I think we have already had time to get used to this incredible atmosphere. Even so, playing in front of our fans is something special every time. I was not nervous. I focused solely on the penalty because I knew how important it was to score the first goal. That is why I was calm. I knew I would score.
Before we move on to the question about our team, I would like to ask about GKS, our opponents. How would you compare the two teams? We know that they are a team representing our country in European competitions.
We knew they were very good in possession. At the same time, we noticed certain elements in their defensive play that we analyzed and felt we could exploit to score goals. In terms of their play with the ball, they really looked good and built their attacks well. I think that during the first 20–25 minutes, they had more possession and tried to create chances, but they did not have a single really clear-cut opportunity to score. We defended very well. However, in the second half we played really brilliantly. We started it very strongly, scored the first goal, then the second, and even a third, although unfortunately it was disallowed. Overall, it was a very good performance from us and, at the same time, a match from which we can draw valuable conclusions.
Thank you for the conversation.
