Wisła Kraków have ended their participation in this year’s edition of the STS Polish Cup. Biała Gwiazda were leading Odra Opole, but after receiving a red card, they had to play with a numerical disadvantage for most of the match and ultimately lost 1–2. After the final whistle, Wiktor Biedrzycki summed up the game on TVP Sport.

Playing with a numerical disadvantage

Wisła went into halftime with a one-goal lead, but they had been down to ten men since the 31st minute. According to Wiktor Biedrzycki, having to play with a numerical disadvantage for so long had the greatest impact on the course of the second half.

"With each passing minute, we were losing strength. Until we conceded the first goal, we defended well and Odra were not creating many chances. Unfortunately, we later conceded two goals," said the Biała Gwiazda defender.

Despite the unfavorable result, the Kraków side tried to equalize until the final minutes. Biedrzycki stressed that the team did everything to turn the tie around, but at the same time he did not intend to look for excuses solely in the red card.

"I am very angry that we are already out in the first round, because that is not befitting of us. However, there is no point blaming everything on the fact that we played with one fewer player. We have to take it on the chin," he emphasized.

The cup objective was not achieved

Ending their participation in the STS Polish Cup so early is a major disappointment for the team. Wisła entered the competition intending to fight for the highest honors, which is why the defeat in Opole caused anger and regret within the squad.

"We are a great club with an enormous history. Our goal was to go as far as possible in this competition, but we did not manage to do that in this edition," Biedrzycki admitted.

Now Biała Gwiazda must draw conclusions from the cup setback as quickly as possible and focus on their upcoming PKO BP Ekstraklasa matches.

"We have to pick ourselves up, because the world is not ending. In our next league matches, we will give it everything we have," Wisła Kraków’s defender concluded.
