After the away defeat to Odra Opole and elimination from the Polish Cup, Wisła Kraków forward Angel Rodado summed up playing a man down, the atmosphere in the dressing room, and preparations for the league.
It was a difficult start, but we managed to score, after which Biedrzycki was shown a red card. After the break, we conceded two goals and unfortunately we are eliminated from the Polish Cup. In your opinion, what were we missing today?
Angel Rodado: Of course, playing with ten men is always difficult, but I believe that is no excuse. We should have behaved differently on the pitch. We stopped playing aggressively, stopped wanting to have the ball at our feet and play football, but we have to be able to do that even with ten men.Regardless of the opponent, we have to want to play.We did not show anyone at all that we cared about playing, so it was difficult because we only started defending. It gave our opponents a chance. It is difficult, that is clear. There are certain things we cannot control, but we must control ourselves and our behavior on the pitch and be better in every aspect in order to perform well.Of course, we are not happy. We wanted to win and take a step forward in the cup, but unfortunately things turned out differently. It is a very, very frustrating day.
Did Odra surprise us in any way today?
No, we were ready for such a match.Of course, we did not expect to be down a player, but we knew what kind of match to expect. We know their style; we played against them for years in the 1st League, so we knew everything. We looked good at the beginning. We know that they are a strong team with many tall, physical players, so we had to deal with that.At the beginning, we did it well, but then we took a step or two backward, which destroyed our identity. As a team, we want to play with a high press and attack, but this time we did not take control of the match.
Can you feel sporting anger and frustration in the dressing room after this match?
Yes, of course.Especially in the cup, where everything is at stake—you either progress or you are eliminated. In the league, you can deal with a defeat differently, because you know that the following week you have a chance to earn three points, whereas in the cup, if you do not win, you are out of the tournament. We were eliminated, so we have to process this frustration and turn it into something that helps us before the next league match.
The next match is already on Saturday. What is the plan for the coming days? Recovery?
Yes, for the players who played, this plan will be slightly different—more recovery to be ready for the match. We will strive to ensure that everyone is 100% ready.
