The Football Interleague organized by the FC Baník Ostrava has begun its seventh edition. This year, Wisła Kraków Academy will be represented by the U11, U12, and U13 teams, which will face clubs from Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary during the season. 

The Interleague is an international project whose primary aim is to give young players regular opportunities to compete against teams they do not usually have the chance to meet. The competition is organized by FC Baník Ostrava combine sporting competition with an exchange of experience between clubs from the Visegrád region. 

An important part of the project is not only the football development of young players, but also learning about other cultures and languages. The Interleague also provides an opportunity for cooperation between clubs and the exchange of knowledge about training, education, nutrition, and player care. As a result, competition on the pitch is also an opportunity to gain experiences that go beyond football itself. 

On Wednesday, September 16, Wisła Kraków's U13 team joined the competition. The Red and Whites played their first two matches in the Czech city of Ostrava, where they faced the hosts, MFK Vítkovice, and Hungary's ETO Győr. 

In the opening match, Wisła were highly effective, defeating MFK Vítkovice by as much as 10:2.

The first two matches therefore gave the U13 team an opportunity to gain valuable experience at the beginning of the season and compete against representatives of various football academies.  

This is not the first time Wisła Kraków Academy has taken part in this competition. The Red and Whites have regularly participated in the Interleague for several seasons, facing top academies from the Central European region. 

Last season, Wisła Kraków's U12 team won the entire competition. In the final, Wisła defeated the Hungarian Győri ETO FC 3:2, ending the season with the championship title. 

Interestingly, in the previous edition as well, competition against foreign teams provided Wisła with plenty of valuable experience. The official Interliga results from the 2025/2026 season include, among others, Wisła's matches against FC Baník Ostrava, Górnik Zabrze, MFK Vítkovice or teams from Slovakia and Hungary. 

This year's edition also brings a significant change to the competition format. For the first time, Interliga has been expanded to include the U11 category, meaning that three age groups – U11, U12, and U13 – will compete in the 2026/2027 season. The organizers emphasize that this will give even more young players the opportunity to regularly face domestic and international opponents. 

This season, the Wisła Kraków Academy will therefore participate in the competition in all three categories. 

Next week, the U11 and U12 teams will travel for international matches. The Wisła players will head to Slovakia, where in Považská Bystrica they will face the hosts – MŠK Považská Bystrica – as well as MFK Dukla Banská Bystrica. 

The competition format means that each participating club will have the opportunity to host a match. In October, international competition will therefore come to Kraków.

For young Wisła players, Interliga is not only another opportunity to compete for victory. Above all, it gives them the chance to regularly face different styles of play, discover new football environments, and gain experience that can be an important part of their further development. It is precisely the combination of sporting competition, international encounters, and the exchange of experience that forms one of the most important elements of the entire project.
