Marcel Łubik: We didn’t lack commitment or fighting spirit
After the match against Górnik Zabrze, Marcel Łubik highlighted the opponent’s good organization of play, the difficult conditions on the pitch, and the areas Wisła Kraków still needs to work on. The Biała Gwiazda goalkeeper also discussed the situation surrounding the conceded free-kick goal and emphasized that, despite the team’s great commitment, they were unable to take all three points this time.
Marcel, that was a difficult match. We had quite a few chances, especially in the first half, but also in the second. Ultimately, we couldn’t win. How do you assess the game?
It was very difficult because, in my opinion, Górnik defended very well. The pitch also made it harder for us to play our game. I think we needed a bit more composure in the final third, between the lines.
We really tried, and I don’t think anyone can question our commitment or our fighting spirit, because the team tried throughout the match to equalise and then to win.
Unfortunately, it didn’t work out. We need to analyse the things that need improving and keep fighting.
For Górnik’s free-kick goal, you took a long time to set up, and one of our players was still lying behind the wall. Unfortunately, the ball found its way into the net. Was it the precision and power of the shot that made the difference?
Because Górnik also set up a three-man wall in front of our wall, I had to move a little to the right, and at the last moment I was standing more in the middle.
Then everyone moved away like that, and I saw the ball very late. At the last moment, I also slipped slightly in the mud, and the ball went off my fingers. I tried to keep it out, but it was very, very difficult.
The second half was largely played on our terms, especially after Górnik’s red card. We had the advantage and tried to turn the game around, but ultimately we failed to earn any points. What do you think we were missing most?
It’s difficult to say because Górnik defended very, very well. That really needs to be acknowledged. They closed down the middle and picked us up one-on-one there. We really tried to play the ball out wide and take players on one-on-one. Everyone tried and wanted to create a chance, but they didn’t allow us any dangerous opportunities.
I think we also simply have to praise Górnik’s work today. They didn’t allow us to create those kinds of chances, and we have to be even more patient, play even faster and even better, because this is simply a high level.
