Mariusz Jop before #WISGKŁ: I think the strength lies in the whole team.
During the press conference before the match against Górnik Łęczna, coach Mariusz Jop spoke about the players' health, the return of national team members, opponent analysis, and the strength of our entire team.
Angel Rodado's health status.
"During the days off that the whole team received, Angel was in Spain, but for family rather than medical reasons. He was treated here by our doctor and physiotherapists. The situation with Angel looks optimistic. He has been training with the team since Tuesday, so he is being considered normally." – coach Mariusz Jop described the squad situation.
Situation of national team players returning from international matches.
"They returned healthy, which is the most important thing. There was a dangerous-looking situation with Kuziemka, where he was hit in the face. It immediately brought back memories of the situation with Odra. However, it was not an impact on the same scale as in the league match. The players returned healthy. Of course, they had individualized training. Kuzi, Dudi, did not play much, but the mental preparation, readiness for the challenge, level of concentration, these are also very demanding elements for them and they needed time to regenerate. It was similar with Kuba Krzyżanowski and Leta. As you know, Kuba played the most out of the four, he performed well, so we dedicated yesterday and today to allowing them to regenerate." – he summarized the condition of the called-up players.
Initially, the match was scheduled for April 2nd. The date has been changed to Monday, April 6th. Do the national team players have more time to regenerate?
"Yes, that was the main reason for the change, because four players potentially, could have been even five. Mariusz Kutwa also often went to the national team. It would have been extremely disadvantageous for us if these players had to play today in a match where, in addition to the matches themselves, there were also travels and something that is very significant when it comes to preparing for a match. So, from the perspective of the national team players, but also from the perspective of treating some injuries in players, this is a good solution for us." – he assessed.
Analysis of the opponent's play.
"It is probable that the next opponent will defend in a low 5-4-1 block, relying on quick attacks. They have players for that, and will also rely on set pieces, they will be aggressive, unyielding. These are generally known facts and we are prepared for them. Perhaps there will be moments when they want to be more aggressive regarding our build-up, we'll see what the match brings, but the most important thing for us is to be ready for these solutions. Of course, the question is how to create and generate more chances in front of the opponent's goal, and we have mainly used this time for these elements, for finishing in the penalty area, for movement in the penalty area, and also for movement that helps create more such situations. The pitch always verifies this later. However, observing the players, I see a good attitude towards this match. I see the good work they have done until today's training, and I see the desire to put on a good performance in front of their home crowd and fight for three points." – he stated.
Has the change on Górnik's coaching bench changed the team?
"Górnik has changed because it's a team that plays more directly, there are fewer combinations when it comes to attacking and movement, but also personnel-wise, it's a team that has changed a lot. I compared their probable lineup for Monday, and only three or four players will likely play compared to six months ago. This is a very big change. You could say it's a different team." – described the White Star's coach.
Górnik has shown a good performance lately. We need to stay alert.
"We know this, we have these experiences, because not only this season, but also previous ones show that sometimes the results are unpredictable, that you have to be maximally focused on everyone. Of course, this is the foundation, the basis, to be 100% prepared, we talked a lot about this during the international break. We know what we are playing for, we know what our goal is, and we know that this is the absolute basis and foundation for showing our quality. I can assure you that in this regard, we will be at a good level." – he said.
Looking at the visiting team's recent results, their league position might be a bit misleading.
"I think that after the winter break, after the coaching change, but also after several successful transfer moves, this is a team that looks quite good. To win 3-0 against a team that is high in the table, I mean that match against Pogoń, and playing with 10 men, it's not that easy. This also somewhat showed what this team feels good at, i.e., low defense and in the transition phase, from defense to attack. They have several players with such motor predispositions that facilitate this way of playing, and that will certainly be something we will have to pay special attention to." – the coach concluded the analysis.
Is Ardit Nikaj mentally ready for the end of the season?
"Nikaj has been with us for a long time. We know his strengths, but we also know his weaknesses. Mentally, I think every player in the first team is ready to go on the pitch and show their quality. However, depending on what happens on the pitch, we have to make decisions, and these decisions are always made with what is best for the team at that moment in mind.
Is it difficult for a player to switch from the club's playing philosophy to the national team and then back to the club's principles?
"It's certainly not easy, and it's not only young players who have trouble with this. I remember, even when I was playing in Russia, the coach always had a lot of comments about players returning from national teams. Here too, besides the physical aspects related to logistics, the difficulty lies in the nervous system arousal, the readiness, the mobilization. We know that playing for the national team is a great honor, but it is also very demanding in terms of the emotional sphere. I think every player learns this, especially young players. The break, the length from the national team match to the league match, works in their favor when it comes to adapting and getting back into club mode." - he summarized.
Marko Bozić is in good form. Will he help secure points, perhaps the most valuable ones this season?
"Time will tell, we don't know, but it's true that Marko is in good form and he showed that in the last match, but also in training and in the friendly match. I'm glad that there's no trace of the injury anymore. We're not just counting on him, of course. We're counting on other players as well. On those who play from the start, but also on those who have played less and are working hard to wait for their chance, for their minutes. I think the strength lies in the entire team, in the entire squad, and not just in one player." – concluded coach Mariusz Jop.
