Mariusz Jop after #POLWIS: We played like champions
After the victory against Polonia Warsaw, Coach Mariusz Jop emphasized Wisła's dominance on the field and praised the entire team's performance. The coach also reassured about Darijo Grujčić's injury.
"We are pleased with this meeting. Not only with the result but, above all, with the game. I think we dominated with the ball from the very beginning. We created many chances. I can say we played like champions. Of course, we would like to score more goals, but let's appreciate what we have. Our goal was to win and keep a clean sheet. There was also a third point, but we didn't achieve it. I won't share what it was. I congratulate the team on their good performance, spectacular play, and positive attitude towards the match. It's not so easy when you are already the best team in the first league; it's not easy to maintain that concentration. It was evident today that these players were ready for the competition. They were ready for aggressive, tough play, and they were ready to function well with the ball. So, huge congratulations, thank you," summarized coach Mariusz Jop.
Darijo Grujcić left the field with an injury. Is it serious?
"He felt a slight hamstring strain. We didn't want to risk it. We have such a strong team that we simply made a substitution to avoid a more serious injury. Of course, there will be further examinations and diagnostics, and we will know more. I don't think it's a very serious injury," the coach reassured.
Will the gas pedal still be pressed against Pogoń Siedlce? Or will you give a chance to other players?
"We'll see. I think we can expect a few changes," he said.
Do you not regret that the season is ending? Wisła looks very good.
"No, I don't regret it. It was a tough season. Very demanding in many respects. We work in such a way that our work is progressive. The beginning may not have been outstanding. I mean our performance in spring. Now we see that this team has gained momentum. Of course, mental elements, the fact that we have secured promotion, also matter. Especially the ease with the ball. In many respects, we look very good. This is a good prognosis for the future," described the Wisła coach.
The starting eleven remained unchanged from the last match. Was this due to ambition and the desire for revenge for the only defeat at Reymonta, which happened against Polonia?
"It was primarily due to the fact that this club is called Wisła Kraków, and good play and victories are expected from us. The squad was identical to the match against Chrobry. Of course, it mattered that we lost our only match this season against Polonia at Reymonta, and we wanted revenge. These were the main reasons. Which does not mean that if a few players who were on the bench had played, the quality of play would have dropped significantly. I think others also deserved their minutes, and as I said, there might be a few changes in the starting eleven in the next match," concluded coach Mariusz Jop.
