In Friday’s friendly played in Myślenice, Wisła Kraków defeated Piast Gliwice 4-3. The match, scheduled in the unusual format of 4 × 30 minutes, was packed with emotion, and the outcome was decided by a spectacular late surge from both teams.

Match proceedings

The White Star made a fantastic start and strongly asserted their superiority from set pieces. Defender Wiktor Biedrzycki was the hero of the first two quarters, scoring twice from Ángel Rodado’s corner kicks - first in the 14th minute and then in the 45th.

After the change of ends, the Kraków side continued to play confidently. Frederico Duarte made it 3-0 in the 70th minute, and just two minutes later Marc Carbó set the score at 4-0 with a powerful long-range shot.

When it seemed that the match would end in a rout, Piast came back into the game. In the final 15 minutes, Piast launched a rapid comeback, scoring three goals in just 8 minutes - Samuel Ntamack (76'), Leandro Sanca (83') and Jakub Łabojko (84') found the net. However, the White Star players managed to hold on to their lead until the final whistle.

A special moment came when the Rodado brothers appeared on the pitch together. In the 91st minute, Adrian Rodado, who normally plays for Wisła’s second team, came on, joining his brother Ángel. The brothers played together in attack for 5 minutes - until the 96th minute, when Ángel left the pitch and Antoni Wójcik replaced him.

Youth players on the pitch

The friendly in Myślenice was an excellent opportunity to test a larger squad and give valuable minutes to players from the club academy and reserves:

  • Igor Hasa came on in the 91st minute, replacing Marko Božić. The young winger took up an attacking position and tried to drive Wisła’s moves down the right flank, gaining valuable experience against an Ekstraklasa opponent.
  • Maksym Tsymbalyuk also came on in the 91st minute, replacing Jesús Alfaro Meseguer. He took responsibility in the central area of the pitch and actively participated in building up play during the final phase of the match.
  • Antoni Wójcik came on in the 96th minute in place of Ángel Rodado. He moved into the position of centre-forward and actively joined the battle with Piast’s physically imposing centre-backs in the closing moments of the match.
