Maciej Kuziemka, a young Wisła Kraków player, is a perfect example of how patience and persistent hard work can make sporting dreams come true. He began his football journey in the youth teams of KSZO Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, then developed his skills in Wisła Kraków’s youth sides and reserves. His determination and commitment eventually led him to the first team of the “White Star.” Kuziemka has already made his first appearances for the team managed by coach Mariusz Jop, during which he showed solid form and flashed his footballing talent. How did his sporting career unfold, and what made him one of Wisła Kraków’s most promising players?

The young Wisła Kraków player arrived at Reymonta in the 2021/22 season, when he decided to tie his future to the Kraków club, moving from KSZO Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski. However, he had already been known to Wisła’s coaches. He impressed with his talent and flair from his very first moments on the pitch, which caught the attention of the coaches, who were happy to invite him to training sessions and tournaments. The next, as one might expect, natural step was Maciej Kuziemka’s joining the White Star’s youth teams, where he had the opportunity to develop his skills in the Central Junior League. Initially, he started matches on the bench, but he soon became one of the key players.

“He first appeared at Wisła’s training sessions while still in the younger under-15 category. At that time, as a KSZO Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski player, he was brought to our training sessions in Bronowice by Mateusz Kostecki. From the beginning, he displayed great freedom in dribbling and very good ball control. These were things that clearly stood out, and they were the elements that made the biggest impression at first. Maciek was a great surprise for me. To be honest, I did not expect a boy coming from a smaller club to stand out so much on the pitch against our players already in his first training session. For that reason, we regularly invited him to take part in friendlies and tournaments,” coach Patryk Jałocha began.

“Later, we had the opportunity to meet again in Myślenice, when he joined the U-17 team. It was a turning point for him, but also a difficult moment. Changing schools and places of residence, and being separated from his family, are difficult issues, especially for such a young person. We remembered him from his under-15 days as a very confident and enterprising person, but when he joined us permanently, he initially lacked that self-confidence. This resulted from the factors mentioned earlier, as well as from the very demanding training environment he entered. Adaptation took him some time, but he was exceptionally hard-working and committed. He gradually built his position in the team, getting his first minutes and gaining experience, and the following season he became a leading figure in the team and truly blossomed,” the coach continued.

As the player himself says, the decision to move to the capital of Małopolska was not easy and involved many doubts. Ultimately, however, the young player managed to overcome every obstacle and begin fighting for his dreams. “It was not an easy decision. Changing clubs and moving to another city at a young age is not easy, but my parents and I knew that we had to take this step so that I could make my dreams come true. I had offers from other clubs, but I already felt somewhat connected to Wisła because even before the transfer I had been invited to trials and tournaments. The beginnings at the club were quite difficult. I was constantly dealing with injuries or illnesses, and whenever I did get onto the pitch, it was difficult for me to show the full extent of my abilities. It certainly taught me a lot, and I am now proud that, year by year, I feel more confident at the club and look better and better on the pitch.”

In addition to talent and exceptional hard work, the young player’s success was also aided by his professional approach to his responsibilities and the support provided by his parents. These factors, backed by the trust shown by the coaches, created excellent conditions for the Wisła player’s development, which he made the most of.

“Apart from being a very talented player, he is also a well-mannered young person. Credit is due to his parents here. When he joined us, they supported him greatly. They were also aware that results take time and showed patience and trust. I think that also influenced his adaptation to the club and his development. As for Maciek himself, from the beginning he was aware and disciplined when it came to various football-related aspects, such as recovery, diet, and his mental approach. He knew that his future career depended on him. We could create the right environment, provide him with support, and wait for the results,” coach Jałocha stated.

Kuziemka stormed into the U-19 team, with which he competed in the CLJ, and the next step proved to be Wisła Kraków’s second team. Last season, the player made as many as 20 appearances for the reserves in the fourth tier, scored four goals, and helped secure promotion to a higher division. He also played an important role this campaign in the team managed by Aleksander Mikhailov (previously by Bartosz Bąk), making 15 appearances and scoring 5 goals. What is the young Wisła player’s recipe for success? “Above all, I always give 100%. I know that hard work brings results, and that is the path I want to follow. In training, I want to show my abilities and enjoy every moment on the pitch.”

The first-team coaches of the White Star could not overlook Maciej Kuziemka’s professional attitude, excellent form, and great talent. The player had already had the opportunity to take part in training sessions in previous seasons, but in October this year he was officially registered for the Betclic I Liga. He did not have to wait long for his debut, making his first appearance in the second tier in the 73rd minute of the match against Stal Stalowa Wola. He received another opportunity in the league match against Chrobry Głogów, in which he played the final 30 minutes.

“It is a great honor and distinction. I also know that I earned it through my hard work, and I am proud that I am climbing the career ladder and currently have the opportunity to develop with the first team. A debut is always a special event, but I would not want to rest on my laurels. I know there is a great deal of work ahead of me, and I am already focused on my next goals.”
